"The Indonesian customs has implied an active role in delivering online support not only for their customs officers but also for members in the region through a series of International customs webinar at the Customs Collage. Fortunately, I?ve had an opportunity to visit the Indonesian Customs Training Center in July 2019, before the pandemic, I was very much impressed with developed facilities, such as well-equipped classrooms, comfortable accommodation, the training facility for a mock Container examination, and advanced analytical equipment." (Mr. Kunio Mikuriya, January 29 2021).
After going through a long preparation process since 2018, today January 29, 2021, Indonesian Customs and Excise Training Center has officially become the World Customs Organization Regional Training Centre Asia/Pacific. The commencement of RTC Indonesia is marked with the signing of Memorandum of Understanding between the World Customs Organization and the Ministry of Finance of the Republic of Indonesia on the Establishment of a WCO Regional Training Centre in Jakarta, Indonesia.
The signing ceremony is carried out virtually by the WCO General Secretary Mr. Kunio Mikuriya and the Chairman of Financial Education and Training Agency Mr. Rionald Silaban, representing the Ministry of Finance during the International Customs Day 2021 Virtual Gathering. This event is also attended by Minister of Finance Mrs. Sri Mulyani Indrawati and The Director General of Indonesian Customs Mr. Heru Pambudi.
The MoU is signed, following the endorsements given by heads of customs administrations in Asia Pacific region at Joint Virtual 21st WCO A/P Regional Head of Customs Administration Conference and 30th Regional Contact Point Meeting on November 12, 2020.
As RTC Indonesia, a big responsibility awaits us in the future to conduct capacity building activities for customs administrations in Asia Pacific that are not just fulfilling expectations but beyond, exceeding it. COVID-19 pandemic has trained us to innovate in a difficult situation, and hopefully this experience will become a valuable asset for us to present innovation in the upcoming activities held by RTC Indonesia. Cooperation, coordination, and collaboration with all parties will help us in answering this tough challenge.
Wish for us so we can carry our duty with excellence and make a contribution to strengthen customs human resources in the region and to support customs administrations realizing this year's slogan "Customs bolstering Recovery, Renewal and Resilience for a sustainable supply chain".
